how remove directory

How can I delete in the termianal a hole directory with all its files?
with rm he says

rm: cannot remove `test/': Is a directoryp
with rmdir he says
Quote:
rmdir: `test/': Directory not empty

rm -rf <dirname> will do it.

Be VERY careful though. Never do a rm -rf .* or anything like that and take extra caution using the -rf flag while your root.
