how nfs different from samba

I have been sharing files between 2 linux computers using just

mount //ipaddress/dir /mnt/m1

I think this is just a samba sharing, right?

If I have this works. do I still need to setup nfs?
Is nfs faster?

NFS is used to share the data between linux machines.
You need samba setup when you have windows machines in the network.
