How my AV works

I have installed f-prot and I am being using it for the last month, I do my update once a week, I also do my full scan once every two weeks,

f-prot -dumb -list *

well, How does it work, Do My AV program loads at startup as windows does, If I receive any type of virus will the software warn me OR I have to scan in order to know.

Thanks.

The latter ... Linux doesn't have a "on-the-fly"
system break like the windows AV scanners.

You need to manually check files, unless you
run a combo of e.g. spam-assassin and from
there a script that will check attachments.

Cheers,
Tink
