How much ram does my computer register.......

I'm running debian-sarge-kernel 2.4.27-2-386 on a k6-166 with 64 mb ram simm. with a 30gb harddrive

i pulled 2 ram simm chips out of another older computer I had and put them in it, but they weren't labled and i'm not sure how much ram they were, i believe they were 8mb, but i'm not sure.

i ran #cat /proc/meminfo and got this back

thanks

It's telling you that you have ~47M of RAM. This looks suspiciously like only 3/4 of your RAM is working. What happens on bootup--ie how much RAM shows there?

the bios window ver JE439

AMD-K6(tm)/166 CPU Found
Memory Test: 49152K OK

thats with the new ram chips in
without it it's

AMD-K6(tm)/166 CPU Found
Memory Test: 32768K OK

is that the ram it's cycling, i heard somewhere that was virtual memory and swap, i don't know

I'd be inclined to believe the hardware - that 64 Meg you thought you had is obviously only 32 Meg (or is broken), and the two "new" chips are 8 Meg each.

i came to the same conclusion myself after pulling some out and putting them back, i realized the 2 new ones were 8mb and the older ones were 16mb each, I previosly had 4 16mb in the computer, to make 64mb, but had forgotten that I had pulled the other 2 out and put them in another computer and labled the ones I had left wrong:)

Thanks for all your help, HeHe
