Easy:
1. Get a "Live CD" of any Linux distro. 2. Insert CD. 3. Reboot PC (booting from your CD instead of your hard drive). Voila! Instant Linux - without affecting Windows at all. Nothing is written to hard disk, nothing is changed - but you can experiment to your heart's content. Here are two good places to start: http://www.ubuntu.com/ http://www.ubuntugeek.com/download-f...pdf-guide.html |
Or try wubi:

Install a VM and try it.
|
use a live cd
and while you are at it UPDATE MS WINDOWS service pack 3 has been out for YEARS and YEARS |
Eventually you will need to create some free disk space if you want to install Linux to your hard drive. In the mean time a Live CD is a good way to try Linux. Check out Distrowatch.com for the hundreds of choices.

If you install Fedora, it will install grub which will automatically give you the option at boot time to boot into either Fedora or Windoze.
Just make sure you have Windoze installed *first*, which I think you have. |
You can install VMware player on your windows XP but before installing your RAM size has to be minimum 256 MB & atleast 1 to 5 GB free disk space in your system. After installing VMware you can install as many OS as you want by creating a virtual machine. Also insert the OS CD & start creating virtual machine on VMware.
so thats it, on windows you can work on as many OS as you want without rebooting the system. Mukul |
