How get Ubuntu 13.10 driver for Panasonic KX-P4400 printer
I have a question: can Ubuntu solve my printer problem:
I have a Panasonic KX-P4400 LED (laser) printer that has served me extraordinarily well for more than 20 years. With the upcoming burial of Windows XP, I installed Windows 7 on my laptop, only to find that it doesn't include a driver for this printer, and I cannot find one anywhere. I have an inventory of seven toner cartridges and one replacement developer unit! But I mainly miss the convenience of this very low footprint machine and how inexpensively it prints.
I have an older computer (with a parallel output, which the printer requires. I have been thinking of installing Ubuntu 13.10 on it, as a vehicle to learn that operating system, and perhaps as a way to print to the KX-P4400. But I went to Linux's OpenPrinting and could not find a printer driver. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I am a genuine newbie, but what I have seen about Ubuntu suggests I might like it. And it's got to be better than Windows 8.1, which is the next step I would have to make in Microsoft's irritating migration strategy.
Thank you.
