The KISS principle works fine here. Personally I think the "overreaching tyrant" principle will be the eventual death of SystemD unless SystemD changes to be less overreaching and complex and controlling. Already SystemD has started breaking compatibilities across the GNU/Linux environment, and that is not acceptable in the long run, especially for those that just "accept" SystemD.

If a better and slimmer, less overreaching solution comes along, I think it will be the death of SystemD quite fast. Say one that is lightweight and incorporate many "solutions" to basic issues, but leave more complex issues to the userspace.

Maybe some like Fedora and derivatives would still keep SystemD in such a scenario.

One only has to look at those situations recently where vulnerabilities in systemd makes all distroes using systemd vulnerable to realise that the approach of systemd is not desirable in the long term.
