Sorry about that. I'm just paranoid of the fear that I will lose my crucial files related to my university.
No one can tell or promise the files can be recovered.
Perhaps you can try a windows computer to see if it can be repaired using windows tools.

Well, I'm out of option for Windows. Anyway, I encounter a problem:

Code:

Please select the partition table type, press Enter when done.
[Intel  ]  Intel/PC partition
[EFI GPT]  EFI GPT partition map (Mac i386, some x86_64...)

I use a AMD x86-64. Do I need to choose EFI GPT?

I have no experience with testdisk.
Do they have any documentation?
Perhaps you can open a new tread for testdisk.

I can understand the OP panicking but three threads for one problem doesn't make things easier. Anyway, if this is crucial data then making a backup should be done (right after thinking but well before doing anything else). Luckily linus72 addressed it in the follow-up thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-drive-737923/.
