hi,
To switch permanently your default Desktop Environment from KDE to GNOME try the following: Main menu -> Preferences -> Desktop Switching Tool. Then choose GNOME and click OK. |
ok when I Log out, I find that I have no ability to switch to gnome, i believe I have installed all the gnome packages, I can list them of for you...
15 packages in all... desktop-data-SuSE esound gail gconf2 gnome-filesystem gnome-icon-theme gnome-mime-data gnome-vfs2 libbonobo libbonoboui libglade2 libgnome libgnomecanvas libgnomeui libsf I realize if i go to yast control center > software > install and remove software. then at yast, pull down the menu and find selections, i should have something about gnome, but I dont... so obviously im missing something... and as for the last poster, I cannot find a prefrences on my main menu... Perhaps Im finding a different main menu than yours, or we have different distrobutions... Thanks for the help! :D |
Do you use personal or professional?
|
Personal, in fact, I downloaded the iso off of their website!
:P |
Ok, How can I re-install gnome? I don't know what packages to install... Im guessing why I cant install gnome is because I installed gnome incorrectly...
|
I did some research on that and so far I know that if you have a only 1 CD iso then you DO NOT have Gnome on it.
you can get all the rpms from mirror websites. Like this one: ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/suse/suse/i386/ and if you go to '9.1/suse/i586' instead of '9.1-personal-iso' then you will find all the gnome rpms I don't how to install everything that gnome needs though. Maybe you could use Yast to some kind of online install, but I can't try it since my freakin' suse doesn't want to go online. ( even though my card is detected and dhcp is configured on start up) Good luck. I will post more if I know something By the way, there is something like Suse 9.1 personal full version. Maybe you can get this one. |
Thanks for your help... anyone who has extra help, PLEASE HELP!!! ^_^'' thanks

install apt for suse, let it install gnome and work out the dependencies for you: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ this should be the first step after installing the personal version(imho) because so much is missing. 1 cd= personal, 5 cd's + 2dvds = professional. you do the math. the web site over complicates the process, so if you have any questions post 'em here.
