How do you stop auto dialup connection at bootup on Ubuntu 7.10?

I am new to Linux and am using Ubuntu 7.10 (love it!) but I do not know how to stop the auto dialup connection to the Internet when the computer is started up. Before logging into the GUI the dialup connection is already established. I have looked through the network and modem settings in the GUI (Gnome) and have found nothing that will stop the autodial. It appears to be part of the system boot process.

Thank you for any assistance.

Two Tasks Needed

1) In order not to update on boot, go to System --> Administration --> Network; select the modem or dialup connection; select properties, and uncheck "Enable this connection". This should prevent auto-dialing when you boot.

2) Now, you will want an easier way to dial on demand. To make a desktop icon for your dial-up connection, go to Applications --> Internet --> GNOME-PPP (assuming you are using that); right click on that; and select add launcher to desktop.

You should be able to dial on demand.
