How do you shutdown Advanced Power Management in Linux

I've had a problem getting Mepis v6.5.02 to complete shutdown automatically. It been suggested it's an APM problem and the possible solution is to disable it. WinXP Pro shuts down on this dual boot machine just fine. Anyone know where I can find this APM feature? Thanks.

Try using a boot option like:
append="apm=off acpi=on"

APM is a daemon that allows you to tweak hardware settings (power savings etc)

1. you can stop it by removing the APM service
2. you can stop it manually
/etc/init.d/apm stop
3. you can disable system wide APM by adding apm=off to grub (apm daemon/service will still run but wont have anything to interfere with)
