How do you replace nvidiafb with another driver

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I've tried installing the correct nvidia-glx driver for my added AGP card but keep getting an error about another driver is working, which is the generic nvidiafb one. How would I disable or remove it to install the correct one? Thanks.
