Unhappy How do you print good quality photo's with FC5

When i try to print photo's using FC5 the picture quality is awful. the issue appears to be with the paper type cuz prints on ordinary paper are ok but prints on glossy photo paper are terrible (lots of banding and streaks). The printer produces great pics using XP so the printer is fine.
I can't find any option to select a paper type when printing. How do i produce good prints in linux??

And the settings
And the kind of paper

There are a million variables in printing and the whole process---sadly---is not as foolproof as it often is in Windows.

One common thing you will find is that--where Windows has settings like "Photo"--the equivalent Linux driver will simply give you all the native variables. Much more flexibility, but you have to find the combinations that work.

printer model is epson R300
Paper is --"inkrite 10x15 photo paper" and "WHSmiths 7x5 High quality photo paper"

Utility-.... Not sure i'm just selecting the photo and hitting print. (I've only been using linux for 4 months.

I've managed to improve the print quality in system-config-printers. I'm still getting borders of variable sizes and the pic quality is not as good as i would like-- the colours are a little messed up and the pics are a bit grainy
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as my huge Fedora text book didn't cover printing photo's in any depth and ink is expensive.

Fedora documentation is not going to help with this one......

If you just double-click on the picture file, you are likely getting a photo viewer--this is not going to give you any printing controls

Open up "GIMP"--it will be in your application menus under graphics. If it is not installed for some reason, go to the "Install SW" menu command.

Within GIMP, you will find commands to setup you printer and driver, plus lots of options for improving photos.

Also look into escputil, which I think comes with Fedora. This command-line tool lets you clean and test nozzles, and check ink level.

You might also want to investigate Turboprint..
