How do you play video in Redhat 9?

I'm having trouble playing video in Redhat 9. Is mplayer the answer? If so
how do you install and execute?

Yes, mplayer is a possible answer. Xine and Totem are others but I like mplayer. Go to and search for mplayer rpm.

download it and install it as root

rpm -ivh packagename.rpm

hopefully it will add an icon for you to launch it...if not you have the console.

on the console
type this

and it will hopefully fire up mplayer.
