Unhappy How do you know which linux software is best?

?????Fedora Core 1 - K12LTSP - Wine overlays??????
After some more reading...I think I should be using the K12LTSP 4.0 server with your pxes for the clients and join the K12LTSP 4.0 to the windows domain for the clients usernames and password consistancy? What our optimum quest is give the students linux terminal labs for non graphical software use (typing, wordprocessing and accounting labs) and separate non terminal labs for high graphic/cd interactive learning.
We have a wide area network (384k over iitv system) of 10 schools, a windows 2000/2003 domain controller in every school with 3 isa servers for dsl connections, 1500 clients and over 1000 machines of varying speeds pentium 75s to pentium III all running varying flavors of windows.
Our budget is not great so we need a fairly low cost alternative....the new hardware all the time is murder not to mention the microsoft licensing....
Opinions?
