how do you edit the menu in gnome?
How do you edit the applications menu in gnome? I need to add a lanucher.
Isn't it a right click -> menu editor on the gnome icon in the taskbar you have to do?
I would think so but when I do that the option to add a menu item is grayed out.
When I open a file browse window and type applications:/// I can see the items in the menu but every thing is read only even if I'm logged in as root. Why is this? How do you change any thing? |
Just by curiosity, is the same happening with KDE?
I don't know. I dont have KDE installed.
Don't you have to be logged in as root? Are you?
I get the same thing when logged in as root. I noticed the other day while looking at a FC2 computer that the option was not grayed out but it is on my FC3 Computer. Maby its a bug.

It isn't a bug - (well it's classed as abug, but it isn't).
GNOME had a way of editing menu's graphically, but it sucked, and since then they are moving away from the old method of menu creation to a new method, but it isn't ready yet. The best way to edit the menu's is to edit the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. Look at some of the current ones to find out how they are working, and have a look at this link: www.bluethingy.com It's old, but basically still the same method. :) |
