Isn't it a right click -> menu editor on the gnome icon in the taskbar you have to do?

aaronruss 01-23-2005 04:21 PM

I would think so but when I do that the option to add a menu item is grayed out.

When I open a file browse window and type applications:/// I can see the items in the menu but every thing is read only even if I'm logged in as root.

Why is this? How do you change any thing?

filosophem 01-23-2005 04:39 PM

Just by curiosity, is the same happening with KDE?

aaronruss 01-23-2005 09:38 PM

I don't know. I dont have KDE installed.

Don't you have to be logged in as root? Are you?

aaronruss 02-07-2005 11:03 PM

I get the same thing when logged in as root. I noticed the other day while looking at a FC2 computer that the option was not grayed out but it is on my FC3 Computer. Maby its a bug.

It isn't a bug - (well it's classed as abug, but it isn't).

GNOME had a way of editing menu's graphically, but it sucked, and since then they are moving away from the old method of menu creation to a new method, but it isn't ready yet.

The best way to edit the menu's is to edit the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. Look at some of the current ones to find out how they are working, and have a look at this link:

It's old, but basically still the same method.
