how do u switch from gnome to kde in Red Hat 9

Does anybody know how to swtich from gnome to kde in Red hat 9 via the gui? if possible? is there another way to do it?


The other question i had was Red Hat doesnt detect my network card and highspeed connection...does anywone know how i can remedy this

1. have you got kde and gnome both on your system? if so, you can only switch between them after booting the machine - from one of the login managers (gdm,kdm,xdm) - which will list which one you want. so, install kde from the rh cd's, if you already havent.

2. what card do you have? look up the relevant lines from "lspci", which will give you the name. write back here what it is (if you dont already know). also, see what "ifconfig" gives you. if it shows you anything apart from "lo" , then the cards' up. write back here what it says if it is.

You might need to check, to see if you've got them both installed - not sure if there's an easy way in redhat - you might have to search around but I found my gnome folder in /usr/share.

I've never heard of anyway of running both window managers at the same time - as I understand it, you would log out of one and into the other - whenever I've had both installed, I've always had a dropdown box that offers me the choice of kde/gnome/default but I'm not sure if that's a kde or mandrake thing (to be honest, I prefer kde, but I managed to kill that the other day so I figured I'd have a go at gnome.

Sorry, I can't tell you anything about network set up in mandrake, because I've graduated from a usb dsl modem to a ethernet card that plugs into an external modem/router - that's what handles my connection so I only have to run network setup and include the internal IP address's. It depends where you are as to what service you are using and what you would need to configure.

At the login box on RH, you will see the word "session". Click on it and select either Gnome or KDE. The log in.

Cosmetically, you won't see a huge difference between the two - RH uses the Bluecurve theme by default which makes KDE and Gnome look alike.
