How do Install my modem?

Hi,

I finally got Mandrake 10 successfully installed and now have the 2 biggest problems of setting up my modem drivers..and setting up PengAOL (yes I know) so anyway, I have downloaded the right driver for it and it is sitting on my desktop in the form of pctel-0.9.6.tar.gz.
So I have extracted it, unfortunately in /desktop/pctel
I then ran: ./configure --with-hal=i8xx
It then does a couple of things and says configure: error: no acceptale C compiler found in $path

What do I do from here!? Cheers

Also is there a windows explorer type view for Linux where I can see my drive?

check that you have an app called gcc installed. that's your compiler...and the file viewing, it depends on what you use for your desktop; KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox etc...in KDE the thing is called Konqueror (the "normal" one) and in Gnome Nautilus.

To compile a linux driver (more correctly termed a kernel module) you need everything installed that you would need in order to compile a custom kernel. This means you need the developement components (which will include a compiler, that's what the no CC found is about) I've never used Mandrake but for most distro's you need to install the "development" and/or "kernel developement" packages/components.
