Unhappy How do i Use absolute

My husband and i are running absolute on our computer because we cant get any other linux to run on it. we cannot figure out how to do anything with it. I want to install vlc media player or mplayer and wine (or any other window emu) we need help! How do we install packages on this system? and how do i tell what version we're using? all we know is it is based on slackware and can use the packages from that version of slack on it. no clue how to install. we also need firefox as chromium keeps crashing and it is really starting to annoy us.
~thanks in advance, Mr & Mrs Grizlbr~

Have you tried to install any other distribution?
Would you like to try another distribution?

Firefox is available from the Absolute repository in the CD2 folder.
