How do I use a .tar.bz???
Ok, the basics first: AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 60GB HD, FX 5200 128MB, 512 PC2700 DDR RAM and my OS is Mandrake 9.2 using the KDE desktop.
The problem: I have winex3_3.3-1-ALL_by_azote.tar.bz and want to install it so that I can see about using some windows software (mainly some games). I know I need to become more familiar with the .tar.bz thing as most of the stuff on sourceforge that looks interesting is in that format. I need help installing this product. Once installed I should be able to work out the kinks and configurations, but I don't *hate admitting this* know how to unzip or extract this program as I know it has to be done in the Konsole of Mandrake. I downloaded mozilla 1.6 and it was a .tar.bz and figured out how to unzip it from inside the GUI, but the installer said it had to be run from the console, so I paid a technician to come over and install it for me and was out $75. Wasn't happy about it, but none-the-less it is done and works great. So basically, can someone here help me get winex unzipped and installed? Preferably with a shortcut either in start menu or on the desktop? Thanks in advance, I'll be checking my email for a reply! |
tar -jxvf nameofwinex.tar.bz2
cd /to/extracted/folder then read the README and INSTALL file to see how to install it |
after reading about winex @ http://icculus.org/lgfaq/ i've decided not to go with winex after all. Is there a way to delete this thread so it doesn't look like I'm spamming? Or maybe a moderator could kill it.
