try booting off your linux install cd

I just don't understand why you refuse to use linux to do the job. Many distributions allow you to do that job without actually installing them. But Gentoo is the best on doing this i think. (I reorganized my partition tables using Gentoo Installation disk)

And my second choice will be the windows bootdisk. Just find any windows machine available and create a boot floppy there. I don't use windows 98 for a long time so plz forgive if I make any mistakes. You can create your boot floppy from "Control Panel" > "Install/Remove Programs" > "Create boot disk". I am not sure if this is what it really is but it is something like this. Boot with the floppy, you can do it with or without CD-ROM support. Then type "format c:" on the comman prompt and u r done! (supposed you only have one partition)

it says c is currently using other programs where it can't format, how do i shut off all programs?

well if you used an actual win98 bootdisk i am going to tell you that that error is impossible...you must be trying to format from within windows itself, which is not allowed nor possible.

it's ok i restared into ms-dos and everything worked out, only problem now is getting SuSE to install...

What would that problem be? You left out the details. If they gave you a SuSe CD when you (or crumb) bought the computer, just stick that in your CD-ROM (or whatever you have) and boot the machine. I'm sure if you follow the instructions after that, you'll do fine :D

If you don't have a SuSe CD, go here and get what you need:

There will also be installation instructions there, and you may want to print them so you can have a ready walkthrough.

This should get you started, but then, I am a :newbie: and I've never installed SuSe. Debian is very easy to install, if you want to try it. There's a verbose walkthrough which will give you every little detail.

What will you do with your C>:\ partition now that you've removed Windoze? By the way, send an email to rebates@billgates.worldsrichestman.M$.com and he will gladly refund your original purchase price of Windoze ;) Unless you got it the way most people where I live get Windoze (in China, copyright means "the right to copy"). :tisk: Nobody pays for M$ software, but they all use it :D I know that really pleases Mr. Gates :D

What distribution of Linux will you install on your comp now? Did the store include a CD with the computer, or will you have to download one? Let us know about your "life after Windoze."

When I bought my computer it did come furnished with a copy of ThizLinux. So, after I formatted my computer, which took out $windows$, I tried to install ThizLinux but it did not work (I created a new thread asking this question in Linux-Hardware). When it goes into the installation process it tells me to insert the ThizLinux CD BUT its already inside the drive!! I think I'll try to get myself a copy of KNOPPIX and see if that works.
