How do i switch from tty1 to tty2?

this is a candidate for newb question of the month.

but before your xserver starts you have 4 (or more) tty# screens. I can't remember the key combination to switch between tty1 and tty2.

try not to laugh to hard. lol i know i was when i wrote this. thanks.

Ctrl+Alt+F2 to switch to TTY2. In general, you use Ctrl+Alt+Fn, where n = 1, 2, ... 6 (or 4, however many you have).

From what I understand of your question, you can try the key combination "Ctrl" "Alt" "F#", in which # is the number of the tty screen you want.

Hope that answers your question.

Hold down:

CTRL + ALT + F1 for tty1
CTRL + ALT + F2 for tty2

and so on...
