How do I stop all of my running applications!?

For some reason my comp. is officially hanging when I start X. I tried copying 6760 fonts to my usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF directory, and it said "Finishing Up" until I realized it wasn't going anywhere (but I could still move the mouse). I then rebooted and now when I login as root or user, the X screen goes black and my RAM LED goes crazy...this has gone on for 15min and nothing's changing. How do I stop ANY applications that may be trying to resume?

SPECS:
-Dell 600m Laptop, 1.6ghz w/ 1gb of ram
-Slackware Current
-Dropline GNOME

Thanks ahead!

Cheers,
Galen

Check the man pages for killall and killall5.

That's not doing it. :( The freezing seems to be X related. Oh well, thanks anyways!

I'm not sure on this but if X preloads all it's fonts in memory and you have that many then I think I can see where your problem is...

Your best bet would be to just lose that directory and try starting X, just mv it somewhereout of the road and check to see if it works, if it does, then you know your problem and you know how to fix it :)

You are pretty much the coolest guy in the world! :D 'Just moved the directory, and voila. So I'm guessing 6760 fonts is too much? :)

Galen
