How do I start using Mandrake 10.1

Hello,

I am a 64 year old grandmother whose son gave her a copy of Mandrake 10.1 for Christmas. He downloaded it without help or manuals. After many false starts I seem to have it loaded on my spare computer, an MMX 200 with 128 meg of RAM and no other OS.

I have one question:

How do I start the graphical user interface? I'm not interested in auto booting to it right now. I just want to get there!

I've spent the last several hours searcing for this but all the "How-To" stuff seems assume that everyone knows where the ignition switch is.

Does that mean you're at the command prompt?
In that case type: startx

When I typed in startx and pressed enter I got the following message.

execve failed for/etc/X11/X (errno 2)
giving up
xinit: no such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: no such process (errno 2): Server error

The distinct possibility is that my installation was not done properly.

The good thing is that I have my main computer for playing games while I wait for Mandrake to reinstall on the other machine.

Thank you very much for your help.

I have read that to keep the brain young one needs to exercise it. I think installing Mandrake will do the job nicely!

Enjoy!

Sounds like a winner. Thanks!

In the meantime I'll just keep picking at it. Can't anymore than wear the CDs out by reloading them a couple dozen times.
