How do i start using Linux on my computer?
Hi,
How would i start installing Linux on my home PC? 120Mhz i386 processor, 32 MB of Ram, 1.2 GB Hard Drive, 4 MB Graphics Card, 3.5" Floppy Drive, 12 spd CD-ROM. What version would you reccommend installing? Point me to a web page if possible please. Thanks. |

Naah, I think Vector linux is the ticket. It is a more newbie friendly version of Slackware and is said to run on older PCs.

....this may be a little late, though, I am new to Linux and I have found Mandrake 9.2 to be very user friendly and easy to find apps. for.

Hardware that old will be even more painfully limited with Linux than with Windows, though in text mode or as a firewall it would be OK.
I'd at least try to find a discarded PC to scrounge some bigger SIMMs and a faster processor. Some of the old Socket 7 boards will take AMD K-6 400 and up procs too. Google for info on yours. I'd try a basic Debian install, and Vector sounds pretty cool too. I'll download the live CD .iso and check it out. |
