how do I start gnome ?


I have a blue screen with the green border and a command line, and am trying to start gnome in CentOS 64_86

Have I downloaded the right version of linux for a newbie?

Can anyone help

try the command "startx"

Well, you should type startx. Regarding the right version for a beginner, I'ld recommend you Ubuntu (though I don't know how's CentOS).
