How do I setup my wireless connection

I've just installed Ubuntu version 11.10 successfully on a laptop - a Samsung P28 with 211.5 MiB of RAM and an Intel Celeron processor (1400MHz). It boots Ubuntu but how do I setup the wireless connection?

Have you search through the Ubuntu wiki documentation?

I think you're going to have much bigger problems than wifi trying to run Ubuntu 11.10 on a 1.4GHz Celeron with 211 MB of RAM. That is not the distro to use on such limited hardware. I'm honestly surprised it even boots.

Smile What would be the distro?

If Ubuntu v 11.10 is not the right disto for a Samsung P28 - what would work nicely.
I'm keen to get some Linux installed and learn more about the operating systems.

Well, the P28 boots up ok; I can even use the word processor ok. The hard drive is 40GB in size. I really thought I'd get the wireless working on it so I can browse the web.
I had to install Ubuntu twice, as it did not install first time. I guess it is going to be slow with only 211MB of RAM?
Any ideas what might be a suitable distro for such an old machine?
Thanks all for your help so far.

If you want to stay within the *buntu family, I would suggest Lubuntu http://lubuntu.net/. It is much lighter and faster than Ubuntu. However, if you install a bunch of bloated apps like Amarok or Rhythmbox this will add a lot of bloat to your Lubuntu system. Stick with the lightweight apps in the Ubuntu repos and you will be ok. For example, I like aqualung for music and smplayer for video and the included transmission bit torrent app for file sharing.
If you want to explore a different distro, then try Zenwalk http://zenwalk.org/ or Salix http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/Home.
Both Salix and Zenwalk have a bit of a steeper learning curve than Ubuntu; but they are both fairly easy to use if you read the documentation.

No needs for installations. just insert you wireless modem, and to the top right in the connection menu click on edit connections> mobile broadband>add.
and just do as directed.
simple..

Ubuntu for web browsing

I just want to use some type of lightweight #linux
for browsing the web.
Need it to pick up the wireless card in the P28.
That's about it.
Thanks
