How do I set up a network connection to OSX?

I have a Mac Mini running OSX and I want to connect it to my Linux box. The only home network I have ever set up was between two Windows boxes, so I need a little help in this regard.
I expect the explanation would be very long so if someone knows of a website that leans towards newbies for this information please leave a link.

Thank you

On OS X, join the workgroup "WORKGROUP" - no WINS server is required (see the link for details on how to do it).

On Linux, you have to edit the file /etc/samba/smb.conf - that link will aid you quite nicely. Change the workgroup line to "workgroup = WORKGROUP" and then alter any other configurations you want. I recommend you download and install Smb4k (if it isn't already) - it's a pretty Samba network browser, so that'll make connecting to your Mac much easier.

Best of luck,

Ps. I advise you ugrade to a newer distro (like Mandriva 2006) which brings newer applications and is easier to configure? I know Mandriva 2006 is a breeze to set up. Just my opinion :)

J K9, thank you for the helpful links. The OSX link was very straighforward. The Samba link was...hmmmm, a mouthful. :)

Hehe - glad you got it working though. ;)

It is much easier to connect to workgroups in newer versions of KDE - you'd be surprised. You could update to KDE 3.5 if it's available in your repositories (if they're still active); it's brilliant eye candy :D

Cheers,
