How do I run antivirus after installing it?
 

Hey there guy's, earlier 2day I installed avast on my home linux system. It was a rpm file so I used the rpm command in the console to install it.However after installing it I realized I have no idea how to run it in either the typing console or the GUI. Where does RH normally put newly installed programs, like antivirus software. And how would I go about running it or any other programs I install in the typing console? Thanks in advance.

Wherever the rpm says to, basically. Have you checked through your menues?Normally you just type the name of the program ... but, unless the program maintainers have told you what that is, you have a guessing game on your hands.

Try "apropos avast" and see what comes up.
In this case, you type "avast" + the various options ... have you tried "man avast" or "info avast"?

However, there should be a menue item to bring up the user interface (according to the developer).

Hi, for avast, I think its 'avastgui' the command to run it. You'll have to enter your key though, before you can perform any scans.
