How do I restart a windows PC from my Debian server?

Hello,

I've a slightly difficult question. I didn't know how to go about doing it, and I've done my share of googling it, but I haven't come close to solving it.

I have a Debian 3.1 server which I use to admin my webserver. It is located in my company. I have a windows server also in the same network at the same location. The servers can see each other via pings.

I have a requirement to reboot the windows server when it hangs our payment application. If I'm at the location I can just remote desktop into the windows server and reboot it. But if I'm away and on the road, I can't do that.

I came across a wonderful mobile ssh client, Midpssh, and I use it extensively to admin my Debian box when I'm on the road. I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction on how to reboot the windows server form this Debian box.

I did come across Fadly Tabrani's script on aspn dot activestate dot com, but I didn't know firstly, how to use it, and secondly, if it would work on my linux server. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

install cygwin on the windows box

when you chose what to install in cygwin chose sshd (openssh server?) and reboot (possibly default)
then you can ssh in to it and run reboot, IIRC

No option of installing software

Thank you for responding, and yes, it's a great solution. But, I can't install any software on the windows servers. Sorry.

A search for samba windows shutdown showed that it may be possible to use the linux samba tools to remote shutdown a windows box.
