How do I reset Gnome (in Fedora) ?

Hello all,

I have just upgraded from FC2 to FC3. I have a separate /home partition so I didn't have to worry about losing any of my data which is "a Good Thing" (TM).

However all my configuration settings also seem to be maintained which is (mostly) "an OK Thing" (TM).

Unfortunately this includes all the Gnome settings. This means that now, whenever I log into my normal user account all the panel stuff seems to be scattered all over the place. I don't even have a Main Menu button or an Application Button in the panel. This is "a very very Bad Thing" (TM)

If I create a new user (eg "Fred") he gets a lovely (sensible) gnome layout to the screen with all the right buttons in all the right places. I could delete my user account and create it again but then I would lose all the data (and it would kind of defeat the object of having a /home partition).

How do I reset the Gnome settings back to what they would be for a new user?

Thanks

Mark

OK Chaps!

I think I've solved this.

I just deleted everything in my /home/username/.gconf/ directory and Hey Presto! - At least I think it's worked.I hope I haven't done any damage. Everything seems to be as it would be for a new user.

Shouldn't have done too much damage, depends on what you wanted. .gconf contains all your app settings, if you aren't particularly bothered with clicking Edit > Preferences to set all your apps up again how you like them then you'll be fine :)
