How do I rename certain things on the Desktop?

More specifically, "Computer" and "user's Home". I have the option to rename the latter when I right click, but it never actually changes, and I can't even try to rename "Computer".

Thanks!
(Running GNOME on Debian.)

Have you tried to make the changes as root? User may not have permission.

Logged on as root and could not rename "Computer", either. And none of the Desktop items show up in the terminal.
