How do I remove linux?
Sounds stupid, I know.
My boss has decided that he doesn't want me farting around with linux on a spare PC anymore, so I have to wipe the thing... I guess he feels threatened that I know something he doesn't ;) Anyway, how do I go about it? I did the newbie-that-thinks-he-knows-what-he's-doing thing and ran "fdisk /etc/hda" and removed the partition thinking that would be a quick way, but low and behold, the damn thing booted like nothing happened! So then I was like "well this won't get rid of it, it will just fuck a lot of stuff up, but let's see what happens anyway because it's not like I get to play with this anymore" so I ran "rm -rf /". After rebooting again, it loads linux from LILO, detects yada yada, and hangs at "Warning: unable to open an initial console." So how do I get this thing off of here? Thanks! PS: Would running fdisk from a DOS bootdisk work? |
Yes, fdisk from DOS should work
I can't see how fdisk /etc/hda would have done anything, though ;) Cheers, Tink |
DOS boot disk did it, yeah. Thanks.
I thought deleting the partitions through fdisk /etc/hda would have done it. I did notice afterwards that if I tried to run fdisk /etc/hda again it told me /etc/hda didn't exist. Weird. |

man, this sucks. I was having a lot of fun learning linux. |
Install qemu on your machine and keep on
hanging on ;) Cheers, Tink |
Learn Linux with KNOPPIX.... Then your boss will never know you were using linux!
