How do I re-format an ext3 drive to a windows drive?
Hi
I have an external drive which is formatted for Linux (ext3) and want to re-format it to use it under windows. I have no data on the disk that I need, just want to re-format so I can use it for a backup for my windows7 laptop. Any assistance would be gratefully received :hattip: Cheers |
jjust format it like any other disk in widnows. It's not "interesting" that it had an ext3 filesystem on it before.

mkfs.ntfs /dev/sdxy
gparted is pretty good with anything harddrive related. |
Since you are not worried about the data inside the disk, just do it as usual:
Log in to your windows machine. Go to my computer. Select the appropriate drive. Right click and tell it to format. |
