How do I print to CUPS default over IPP?

I have a cups server that basically runs fine with one connected printer.
I have set the printer as a default through the cups web config.

My question: How do I have the clients print to the "default"...by default. I always have to type the whole ipp://192.168.1.100:/printer/Really_Long_Name_of_default_printer.
I always have to look up the name of the printer to enter it correctly. I chose a default so I would not have to remember the name.

Thanks

Hi,
First make sure cups service is running, (in a root terminal window type /etc/init.d/cupsd restart),open your browser on the machine where the printer is connected and type in the address http://127.0.0.1:631 tick the box called "Share published printers connected to this system" this should then prompt you with a username/password combination, enter your root user and password this should then make your printer shareable by other linux systems. To get other linux systems go to the same page on the system that you want to print from (client) and tick the box "Show printers shared by other systems", again if you encounter a username/password dialogue, just enter the root user and password combination

Goodluck,

This is going to depend on your window manager.

In KDE, you should be able to open up the control center and go to Periphials -> Printers. Your CUPS printer should be listed, and you can right-click it to change it to the default.

I am not sure about Gnome, but look for Printing in the Administration menu.

I am actually using fluxbox and gnome, but the printers are not detected by either. I have been manually entering the printers..not a problem, except that I would like to enter default or something else easy to remember

can you see your printer through the web config on the client computers?

If I view web config through the server, yes. That is, if I type <address of server machine>:631. That is how I know the very_long_name_of_the_printer.
