how do I play .wma audio files?

I have a digital hand held recorder ( olympus)and I am tryto to take the files off of the digetable recorder so thatI can listen to them and if need be clean up the files . well I cannot play them .
when I try O can an error saying " the playing of this movie requires a advanced streaming format(asf) demuxer plugin which is not installed then sometimes linux will offer to install the plugins needed but then gives me another error saying the the ycould not be installed.
I then tried to install VLC player and recieve this error
"Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/locale/ko/LC_MESSAGES/vlc.mo;52dc26e2: cpio: open
error: vlc-noX-lang-2.1.0-6.1.noarch: install failed

Based on the output, I'm guessing you're running some Red Hat distribution. You might try searching specifically for a RH WMA plugin- using Mint, I install ubuntu-restricted-extras and am then able to play WMA files.
