how do i play avi (or other) files in linux? please help!


How do i play avi (or other video files) in linux. i'm very new!

Hi, welcome to LQ. You can use mplayer,vlc,xine ..

and which linux you are using ?

To Divitarova,
Have you downloaded and installed the mpeg3 and mpeg4 decoders in the first place? I am giving an advise unasked for: if you want good quality from M Player, download Alsamix and Alsamix GUI from the software manager and in their window just UP the Volume ( i am just passing on a fantastic piece of advise from a "Sound" Pro)! Best wishes! IF THE PREVIOUS POST SOLVES YOUR PROB.,JUST FORGET THIS POST!(Very sorry for the bold type)
