How do I pick a flash player so i can use online content (facebook games)

I just started using Linux today on an inherited acer aspire one laptop. got myself tied into my home's wifi, but now i need a flash player so I can play games and watch video.
Adobe has 5 different options for linux and I don't have any idea which one to pick.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

the options are:
YUM
.tar.gx
.rpm
.deb for Ubuntu 8.04+
APT for Ubuntu 9.04+

or a preview release of Flash Player with native support for 64-bit Linux

I'm pretty sure I'm not running a 64-bit system, but not sure about anything else.

Thanks for the help

Hi, welcome to LQ!

And which distro *ARE* you running?

Also, a "uname -a", issued on a command line, should make
quite clear whether or not it's 64-bit.

Tink

I do want to learn this stuff Tinkster, so thanks.
I don't know how to get a command line to check which version I'm running

Patient: "Doctor, I have a problem!"
Doctor: "And what is the problem?"
Patient: "How would I know, why would I care? You're the doctor!"

Hmmmm

If your Fedora Logo is anything to go by. You are running Fedora. Safe bet is to download 32 bit rpm.

Me. I just download the tar file and extract it and put it in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins folder. But that is just me.

Tinkster said uname -a. Hence his response to your next post (which I smiled at) ;)

Finding out how to access the command line involves the same kind of process as finding the doctor's office, you look it up. If you just ask people for the answer all the time you're not learning anything, the next time you need the command line you'll have to ask somebody again.

If you don't want to learn how to setup your system, than I think you have to pay for support. It is the same as with cars, if you don't want to learn how to repair them you have to pay the mechanic.

Dear Sariami,
For a quick guide, if you have already found the command line :
For Fedora, just download the rpm file, open up your command line, go to the folder you download it, run :
Code:

rpm -ivh the_file_you_download.rpm
Hope this helps ^^.

Thank you for those who provided helpful links. Yes it is Fedora and the download info gave me a place to start looking. thank you chianigohansa and rokytnji. As for the rest of you, this is not the way to be encouraging to newbies. If you can't give a constructive comment, don't bother. I found another thread where someone actually answered a question of how to get a command line.

Tinkster 12-09-2010 01:28 PM

The funny thing is that telling you how to get to a
command-line will largely depend on the distro you're
running. So you not providing that info on request
stopped me in the tracks - I don't have the time to
try and guide people through a load of possible alternatives,
just stabbing in the dark.

Tink

Tink, you're being bloody minded. If you "don't have time" (even to see what distro some-one's using), why not leave it to others who do? Being a moderator is no excuse for being rude.

Sariami, another place you can find help is
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/
and you can read lots of guides and tips via
http://fedoraproject.org/

Above all, don't be discouraged! Remember the first time you ever used a computer? It didn't all fall into place overnight. One day you may even end up a hacker:

If you're referring to the f icon on the posts side-bar ... if
that's an indicator for then half the people here (including
some mods) would be posting windows related questions
or answers.

I've been bitten by the browser icon a couple of times, and
the best way to provide targeted information is to hear what
they're using from the poster. Nothing rude about it as far
as I am concerned.

Thanks David. Plus I love the cartoon. I'm not at week 12 yet, but no longer on week one either. I did mark this one as solve d so no one else would post. I think this topic has been exausted and totally gotten off track of. Thanks and catch everyone later
