If you need a GUI, there should be an app (dont know your distro) but in Mandrake in the KDE menu its: Applications/File Tools/File Manager-Super User Mode.
Otherwise, you could just work from a terminal. Type 'su' (no quote) and enter password. Now you can alter files, directories, etc as root from the command line.
Be careful of the root!!
