Question How do i Login?

All,
I am a newbie to Linux World. Believe this is a very basic question. I installed Mandrake Linux 9.2 on a Separate Harddrive in my machine. I also installed Windows XP on another harddrive. On the start up the Linux Screen shows Linux, Dos, Floppy etc.
When i choose Linux, it starts by loading KDE 3.1 and gives me an error 'Write Permission denied on \home\marx\.ICconfig"
and stays there. I take it that the ROOT user should give me permission. But how do i login as ROOT? There is no screen which asks me Userid..

Can anybody help me here

thanks
Marx.

hi

was this error as soon as you installed kde. i guess not.

try this after reading completely

control+ alt+f1 would give you a command line login prompt

login as root user

delete the file mentioned.

restart and try again or press alt+f5 and see whether you are able to login now

Hi,
It WORKED!!!. I pressed Ctrl Alt F1 and it took me to Login screen. I logged on as ROOT and gave permission to user Marx with chown -R Marx /home/Marx From the Root directory. Restarted my machine and KDE loaded successfully. Looks like somehow my permissions got whacked.

thanks much
Marx
