How do I load my USB Speedtouch 330 onto linux distros?

As a newbie to linux I have been trying some of the light weight distros like Puppy and DSL as my equipment is quite old. I have tried the CD provided by my ISP supplier BT but this will not load with vatious error messages like unable to read file or media, I have been using Win98 upto this point but I am very keen to get into Linux in all its various distros, my current hardware being the restriction on distros like Ubuntu at this time? Any assistance on how to proceed would be appreciated as I am unable to connect to the internet at this time.
