How do I install other os and keep linux too ?
 

I had windows 10. I wanted to install linux so I downloaded the iso. I booted it and ran setup. I had to create a new partation but while doing that some thing went wrong and whole hard drive was corrupted. The I had no way. Neither Windows would boot or hard drive would work. I had only way to format drive and install linux. Now I have only one partation. I ran imgrec command and recovered some of my pictures. Now I want to get back windows. But I cant create oartation because i cant unmount the only drive. I neither have usb nor a dvd. Now what do I do ? I tried installing Kali Linux but I can't. To install another OS I have to create a partation . *****So Please Give me a way to create partation without loosing data and without running a live cd.**********

If I may ask, how did you run linux? USB? CD? DVD?
Are you using a Desktop? Notebook? Tablet?

I'm afraid to say but you might have lost almost all of your data in the hard drive.

A little more detail will help others understand your problem. :)

Which Linux? There are over 500 different ones and they are not identical by any means so if you want some help, you will need to at least tell us that.

The standard method to use is Disk Management in windows to shrink the windows partition and leave unallocated space on which to install whichever version of Linux you have. Also, exactly how did you install Linux if you don't have a DVD or flash drive?

what install guide on dual booting were you NOT fallowing ?

It's Notebook. At the time of installation I had a USB of my friend. Now he is not here.

If you had windows 10 pre-installed, it was probably installed using UEFI/GPT. The link below explains dual-booting with windows 8 and later with Ubuntu. You need to select to boot the Ubuntu install medium UEFI.

When you install Ubuntu, you have several options and the Something Else option is the one you want as it is a manual install with options.
Why can't you unmount the drive/partitions? What have you tried? If you don't have a DVD or flash drive I'm not sure how you can do anything.

Usually when dual booting the process is to install Windows FIRST as Microsoft's OS behaves like it's the only OS on the planet; it doesn't recognise any other OS existing on the same machine.

When a Linux distro is installed after this, the grub boot loader can acknowledge multiple Linux installs and Windows OS' and lets you select which one you want to run. :)
