Hi

Ubuntu dose have version 1.1.0-9.1 in the repos if this is any good?
Or do you need to install from source

Why not just go into the Ubuntu Software Center, search for gtkglext and install libgtkglext and libgtkglext1-dev?

ii libgtkglext1-dev 1.2.0-3fakesync1 amd64 OpenGL Extension to GTK+ (development files)
rc libgtkglextmm-x11-1.2-0 1.2.0-4.1 amd64 C++ bindings for GtkGLExt (Shared libraries)
ii python-gtkglext1 1.1.0-9.1 amd64 GtkGLext python bindings
