How do I install ar and ld tools in Ubuntu? Please help.
I want to install Oracle Apps Release 12 on Ubuntu 8.10.
I needed the following tools to be installed:
ar,gcc,g++,make,ld,ksh and x server.
I am unable to find any information about "ar" and "ld". Please help.
Thanks.

sudo apt-get install build-essential ksh
will provide the things, you need.
'ar', 'ld' are provided by the package 'binutils',
probably already installed.
And if you can see a "Desktop", the x - server is
installed too.

which ld
I can't imagine ld not being installed. Programs use it to load libraries.
