How do I install a patch?

I've been working on FreeBSD for a few years on and off. However, I have never installed patches before. I am currently trying to install xpdf from here http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html on a CentOS Linux box am wanting to install from the source code. It comes with two patches. Can someone point me to a link that teaches this? Any help would be appreciated!

You install the patch with the patch command. See:

man patch
