How do I install a C compiler?

I have just installed SuSe Office Desktop (8.1) on a Dell Dimension 4600 and need to compile a driver for the 3Com Network Card. I have downloaded the source and need to compile it. Unfortunately, SuSe Office Desktop does not include a C compiler. Ther is no 'gcc' program or man command and no 'make' program.

SuSe will only tell me that it is available on their ftp site at ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.1/ but this has only confused me. Further information would be chargeable.

It is obvious, from previous questions on this site, that the gcc compiler is normally present on the distribution media.

I would be really grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction so that I can install a C compiler to get my network driver compiled.
