I'm trying to install an old 2.5" ide drive into my PC. I have a 2.5 to 3.5 ide adapter and ribbon cable to attach to the ide controller on my pc. I tried attaching the end of the cable plug (I think that's the master) and also the middle of the cable plug but neither worked. The drive doesn't show up in bios.
Maybe I didn't get the correct cable or adapter? Thanks.
btw - one end of the cable is blue and the other black....not sure if that's meaningful.

The jumper is on the disk. There are three choices; M/S/CS for Master/Slave and Cable Select. The shunt link should be in the Master position.
Can you post the Make and Model No of the disk which may help with answering your question.
Thanks for the replies, however, I decided to give up on this idea for now and just make the drive an external hdd. I'm running out of ports to connect things to.
