how do i get two sounds to run at once on mandrake 10?

im on mandrake 10 and i use gnome 2.4.
how do i get multiple sounds to run at once?
i took this for granted with winblows but it is really annoying on linux to have this problem.
id like to be able to run xmms and watch a video with sound or play a game with sound.
how do i fix this problem?
