How do I get my swapfile to work?

OK when I installed debian i didn't know I needed a swap partition, so when i got it running I learned I needed one, so I created a swapfile it works but i have to type swapon /swapfile into the command line for it to work i heard there is a way for it to do this automatically on startup. I don't know how. I've only been using linux since monday so I am not an expert.

i think you must edit your /etc/fstab .
add a line like this :

/dev/hdb2 swap swap defaults 0 0

( let hdb2 point to your swap-partition )
