how do i get my liteon 18x internal dvd-rom to work dont no how to use linux

i bought a liteon 18x internal dvd rom and i dont no how to make it work with linux can someone help me with this i dont no anything about linux husband put it on computer for me and now we are apart and i need help with it

Which linux distribution is installed on your computer and have you got the dvd rom already installed in your computer?
